She won’t rest until she’s sent every walking corpse back to its grave. Forever.

Had anyone told Alice Bell that her entire life would change course between one heartbeat and the next, she would have laughed. From blissful to tragic, innocent to ruined? Please. But that’s all it took. One heartbeat. A blink, a breath, a second, and everything she knew and loved was gone.

Her father was right. The monsters are real….

To avenge her family, Ali must learn to fight the undead. To survive, she must learn to trust the baddest of the bad boys, Cole Holland. But Cole has secrets of his own, and if Ali isn’t careful, those secrets might just prove to be more dangerous than the zombies….

I wish I could go back and do a thousand things differently.
I'd tell my sister no.
I'd never beg my mother to talk to my dad.
I'd zip my lips and swallow those hateful words.
Or, barring all of that, I'd hug my sister, my mom and my dad one last time.
I'd tell them I love them.
I wish... Yeah, I wish.

Before I began this book, I was SO sure that it was an Alice In Wonderland re-telling. Come on, it's right there with the name. Only about zombies. Now, I have to warn YOU that I was so wrong. Oh no. This has NOTHING to do with Alice In Wonderland. The only thing this has in common with that is that our main character is called Alice (duh!) and the rabbit thing they got going on.

Anyway, even though it has nothing to do with the tale, I still enjoyed this book. It's a paranormal (my favourite ever genre, I might add!) and there's a hot guy in it called Cole. So yeah obviously I was destined to like this book. And I did. It's very fun and I like that it focuses on quite a lot on the high school drama aspect more than the zombies. You can tell that I don't like zombies, can't you?

Alice is just your typical YA heroine. Only have a few friends, quite shy, has a really LOUD best friend etc. You get it, right? There's nothing really special about her. Though she can be quite snarky and funny at times. Cole is also your typical bad boy. But I also fell in love with him. He was in the book more than I expected. (Which is a good thing, people!)

For me, the best characters (and my favourite) was Ali's best friend Kat and her on-off boyfriend Frosty. These two were just hilarious! You can clearly tell they're in love with each other, but Kat keeps on being bitchy to Frosty (she thought he was cheating on her) and the whole thing about them was just hilarious. I loved Frosty. He's now one of my book boyfriends and they're also one of my favourite couples ever. I wish they have a really big part in the sequel too. :D

For the record, I hated Mackenzie. BITCH BITCH BITCH.  Oh and before I forget, I have to say I ADORE Alice's grand-parents. OMFG they were the best!! My favourite parts in the book was when they were interrogating Cole. I could totally imagine MY parents doing that. Oh God.

The reason why I gave this a four-goddess rating, and not a five, was because of the action scenes. I just didn't like them and how the author wrote them. I get so bored and confused that I found myself kinda flipping through until the action scenes were done. I know I'm such a bad girl.

I was going to put this book down since I got halfway through and I kinda lost interest in it. Then the peeps on Twitter were like 'NO. You can't do THAT. Finish the book!!' and so I did. Yeah, I don't regret reading the rest, and yes, the plot twist(?) definitely surprised me at the end. Didn't expect THAT.

Thank you so much to MIRA INK for sending me a finished copy for review! :D

  3. Oh, I want to read this book! Gena Showalter writes the Intertwined series, and I relaly like that one, so I'm looking forward to reading this one. Sad that you wanted to put it down halfway through, though. Makes me wonder what I'LL do when I read the book. Still, four goddesses is a good thing. Yay!
